Elexicon recently helped the pediatric endocrinology department at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital develop a series of online education modules covering a variety of health topics. Parents and families can access these narrated Flash-based animations to view important educational information about their child’s care quickly and conveniently. While not a replacement for doctor visits and advice, these teaching tools are instead intended to provide helpful reminders and refreshers on topics such as diet and weight management — especially for families who live far away from their doctor’s office and nurse educators.
West Michigan residents noticing the new tower rising in downtown Grand Rapids on the Michigan Street hill can now keep tabs on the progress of the exciting new Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital building at www.devoschildrens.org/2011. Elexicon designed and built the site that currently features video of the February topping-off ceremony and will continue to feature updates as construction continues.
We found this awesome work by a California design student via The Consumerist blog … a four-minute animation with audio voice-over that tells the complex saga of the current financial system meltdown in an easy-to-digest visual story. Representing the sub-prime mortgage market in the form of a smoking couple with multiple children was probably not quite in good taste, but overall the fast-paced vignette does a masterful job of translating the jargon we’ve all been hearing on CNBC into understandable metaphors. You find yourself yelling at the screen as if watching film noir or a slasher movie … “Don’t do it! Just stay where you are!” Unfortunately, at the end you can’t say “it’s only a movie.”
